OTAY MESA DETENTION RESISTANCE
We are a group of local community members organizing against the inhumane detentions and human rights abuses at Otay Mesa Detention Center. As long as migrants and refugees are subject to state oppression, we will work alongside them to honor and raise up the dignity, humanity, and agency of every migrant.
OUR WORK
DETAINEE DIRECT SUPPORT
The Detainee Direct Support committee creates authentic, supportive relationships with migrants in the Otay Mesa Detention Center through letters, phone calls and visitations. The committee also organizes and facilitates transitional post-release physical support.
LOCAL POWER BUILDING
People who were formerly detained and are now at liberty to organize more freely are working to support themselves and those who are still in detention. This committee supports those local people in their work and organization.
OUTREACH & COMMUNICATION
This committee researches local, state and federal detention policies, amplifies detainees voices and organizes actions when needed. In case of need, this committee will put feet on the ground for Rapid Response and create temporary committees to plan events.
